1962 born in Vienna. Lives and works in Berlin and Hamburg.

Hans Scheirl
Born 1956 in Salzburg, Austria. 1975-80 Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, 1980 diploma in conservation and
resto-ration of art; 1979-98 Super-8 films (52 shorts); 1978-84 experimental music and performances with
the group 8 oder 9, Vienna; 1981-83 performances and life art interventions in Vienna, Salzburg and New York; assistant to Arleen Schloss, N.Y.C. working for the weekly event Wednesdays @ A´s; 1985-86 experimental music and performances with Ungünstige Vorzeichen, Vienna; 1985-86 video-training at Medienwerkstatt Wien. 1986 two short videos; 1988 two short 16mm films; 1989-92 feature-film Flaming Ears, 16mm/Super 8 blow up, 84 min (script, performer, co-director, co-editor); 1992-98 feature-film Dandy Dust, 16mm/blow up, 94min (director, producer, performer, script, storyboard, editor). Since 1995 painting; 2001-03 M.A. studies in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London; 2005 moves to Vienna, joins auto, an artist-run exhibition space; 2006 is awarded the Staatsstipendium für bildende Kunst.
Throughout his life Hans Scheirl has also exhibited and published drawings and writings, e.g. the drawing
A wet prayer for the pig in: Ruh Roh, N.Y.C. 1992; and the text The manifesto for the dada of the cyborg-embrio, in: The Eight Technologies of Otherness ed/author Sue Golding, Routledge 1997. He has given performance/ lectures on his work and its diverse contexts, the last one ­ invited by Prof. Elke Krystufek ­ at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. He features in numerous films (e.g. Venus Boys by Gabriel Baur, Pansexual Public Porn by Del laGrace Volcano, The Making of Dandy Dust by Tina Keane), photography (Catherine Opie, Los Angeles; Del laGrace Volcano, London; Donna Ferrato, N.Y.C.) and internet projects (Couch by Tina Keane, Brandon/ Body of Evidence, artist/curator Shu Lea Cheang).
